  25. The Result CD ROM requires the following minimum system to
  26. work correctly:
  27.     
  28. - A Multimedia PC with Pentium (or equivalent) 60 MHz
  29.   processor
  30. - 16 MB of RAM
  31. - Double speed CD ROM drive
  32. - 16 bit colour display set to 640 x 480
  33. - SoundBlaster 16 bit audio card (or 100% compatible)
  34. - Suitable loudspeakers or headphones
  35. - Mouse or other pointing device and keyboard
  36. - Windows 95
  37.  
  38. Installation Instructions
  39.  
  40. Ensure that Microsoft Windows 95 is running with no other 
  41. applications open. Insert the Result CD-ROM into your 
  42. CD drive. From your Windows 95 Desktop, choose Start and 
  43. then Run.
  44.  
  45. a) Type D:\setup.exe (if D is the letter indicating your 
  46.    CD-ROM drive) in the box labelled open, then click on 
  47.    the OK button.
  48.  
  49. b) You should then follow the instructions as they appear. 
  50.    If in doubt choose the default options as you proceed 
  51.    through the installation.  When prompted to install 
  52.    QuickTime for Windows, you should do so, unless you are
  53.    sure you have the 32 bit version 2.1.2 or better already
  54.    installed.
  55.  
  56. c) Once you have completed the Result installation, you may 
  57.    be prompted to shut down and re-start your computer. If so, 
  58.    please do so. 
  59.  
  60. d) Once it is installed, you can run Result by double-clicking
  61.    on the Result icon.
  62.  
  63. System Configuration
  64.  
  65. Please ensure that you run Result with your display set to 
  66. 16-bit (64k) colour and that you are using the latest drivers
  67. available from your hardware supplier. If you need to change
  68. any settings, refer to the documentation for Windows and for
  69. your particular system.
  70.  
  71. Result requires the display set to 640x480 pixels resolution
  72. and may not display the mouse cursor (required during certain
  73. parts of the gameplay) properly with monitors set to 
  74. resolutions greater than 640x480.
  75.  
  76. Uninstallation
  77.  
  78. To unistall Result from your system you should proceed as 
  79. follows:
  80.  
  81. a) From your Windows 95 Desktop choose Start then 
  82.    Control Panel.
  83.  
  84. b) Choose Add/Remove Software.
  85.  
  86. c) Click BBC RESULT in the list of installed software.
  87.  
  88. d) Click the Add/Remove button.
  89.  
  90. Result will be uninstalled from your system.

  93. Technical Support
  94.  
  95. If you experience any problems after completing the 
  96. installation procedure contained in this text, please check
  97. that your system and settings meet or exceed the minimum 
  98. specification described above and refer to your Windows 95
  99. system documentation.
  100.  
  101. Having checked your system, please attempt to install Result
  102. again. To do this you should first uninstall Result
  103. using the procedure described above. You should now install
  104. the software again and make a note of the prompts displayed
  105. during the installation process.
  106.  
  107. The Game
  108.  
  109. Result is a unique multimedia sports quiz hosted by
  110. Desmond Lynam and featuring many great BBC sporting highlights
  111. from 1960 -1997. You can test your own sporting knowledge or
  112. compete against another player. The player with the highest
  113. number of points at the end of the game is the winner, and
  114. there is a high score table to record your best Result 
  115. scores for posterity.

  159. Result features a huge number of questions - more than 
  160. 3,000 - and a wide range of question types - over 20 in 
  161. fact - all generated in such a way to ensure you can play 
  162. the game many times without a question being repeated.

  189. Result features an unrivalled collection of pictures and
  190. sounds from the BBC and other sports libraries. These
  191. include:

  193. - over a 100 video clips featuring international stars 
  194.   as diverse as Muhammad Ali, Alan Shearer, Greg Norman
  195.   and Ian Botham
  196.  
  197. - 100 audio extracts, including commentators, sports 
  198.   personalities and signature tunes 
  199.   from the history of BBC sports broadcasting
  200.  
  201. - more than 200 stills of sportsmen and women and 
  202.   sporting action 
  203.  
  204. The Gameplay
  205.  
  206. Starting Result
  207.  
  208. Your host and quizmaster Desmond Lynam will introduce you
  209. to Result, and he'll tell you all you need to know throughout
  210. the game. Once you have seen the introduction you can skip 
  211. all of his subsequent video at any point by pressing the 
  212. Spacebar.
  213.  
  214. To play Result, you'll need to decide on:
  215.  
  216. length of game:     When prompted, press the S key for the 
  217.                  standard, 32 question game or the L key for 
  218.                  the long play, 64 question game
  219.  
  220. number of teams: When prompted, press the 1 or 2 keys for 
  221.                  1 or 2 teams
  222.  
  223. your team name:     it's up to you - type in a maximum of 
  224.                  12 characters and then press the Return
  225.                  key to start the game
  226.  
  227. Getting Around
  228.  
  229. Result is played over three rounds. Each correct answer is 
  230. worth 10 points in the first round, 15 points in the second 
  231. round, and 20 points in the third.
  232.  
  233. Each player has a dedicated key on the keyboard to use as their
  234. buzzer. They are: 
  235.  
  236. Q for player 1
  237. P for player 2 
  238.  
  239. At any point during play, pressing the Escape key will pause
  240. the game and these options will appear:
  241.  
  242.  
  243. N: press this key to start a new game
  244. R: press this key to re-start a game with unaltered 
  245.    settings
  246. C: press this key to continue with the current game
  247. H: press this key to view the High Score Table - press 
  248.    any key to return to this screen 
  249. Q: press this key to quit (you will then see the credits, 
  250.    which you can skip by pressing the Spacebar)
  251.  
  252. You can raise and lower the volume of the sound by pressing on 
  253. the + and - keys.
  254.  
  255. At the end of every round, the scores and the statistics of
  256. how your points were won and lost will be displayed.
  257.  
  258. Please note: The Numeric Keypad is not available for use
  259. whilst playing Result.
  260.  
  261. Bonus Scoring
  262.  
  263. Each round contains a bonus scoring feature - the Doubler.
  264. Every question is preceded by a short visual trailer of
  265. the sports category on which the question is based. When
  266. the trailer appears in the top right hand corner, either or
  267. both players can hit their buzzer key to double the points 
  268. on offer. 
  269.  
  270. Remember, however, that you will lose double the points if 
  271. you get the answer wrong.
  272.  
  273. In the third round, Result's unique Medals bonus comes into 
  274. play. Simply answer correctly three questions in a row and 
  275. you'll receive a bonus score of 50 points. Your Medal 
  276. status - bronze, silver and gold - will be indicated at the
  277. foot of the screen.
  278.  
  279. Round One 
  280.  
  281. If you're playing Result with two teams, questions are asked
  282. in turn during the first round. Get the answer wrong and the
  283. question is passed over to the other team.
  284.  
  285. Round Two
  286.  
  287. This time you can buzz in as soon as you think you know the
  288. answer. Team 1 uses the Q key as their buzzer; team 2 uses P.
  289.  
  290. Round Three
  291.  
  292. It's buzzing in again, but this round contains the Medals
  293. bonus feature. 
  294.  
  295. High Score Table
  296.  
  297. High-scoring players can enter their names into the Hall of 
  298. Fame, where they will be saved along with the scores.
  299.  
  300.
